O’Neills was established in 1918 by Charles O’Neill and Co., at his family home on Dublin’s Chapel Street. From the production of the 1st O’Neills size 5 football, over the next 50 years, the company became renowned as the manufacturer of footballs and hurling balls for Gaelic games.
In 1955, O’Neills ventured into the textile industry and sporting apparel. Through the expansion of facilities in Walkinstown, Dublin and Strabane, Co. Tyrone, the company has become vertically integrated with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. O’Neills have complete control over the production process, to ensure the highest quality production of playing gear, training gear, leisurewear, and sporting equipment.
Over 100 years later, O’Neills is still producing the famous size 5 footballs and is still a 100% Irish owned company, employing over 900 people across the island of Ireland. The success of the company has been built on its ability to continually innovate and meet customer demand for its products.
O’Neills also operates 8 retail shops in the North of Ireland, which is based in Strabane, Derry, Magherafelt, Craigavon, Enniskillen, Newry and two in Belfast, with the latest opening in CastleCourt shopping centre in March 2020.
